Imagine tucking into a sizzling platter of delicious, authentic Indian food, sipping a cold drink while sitting in the sunshine. With the exciting arrival of Dalkeith’s newest Indian and Bangladeshi restaurant – The Bombay Lounge – you could be doing just that.

The family-run eatery, which opened just before Christmas, has breathed new life in to the East end of the High Street. Formerly Sam’s Bar, the 120 year old traditional building in which it is housed has been transformed into spacious, modern surroundings, boasting a beer garden and barbecue area, following a year long refurbishment.

Restaurant owner and maitre d’ Michael Singh runs the Bombay Lounge along with his brothers. “We wanted to offer people something that’s never been done before in Dalkeith,” said Michael, who has 22 year’s experience in the trade. “I’m very proud of the menu. You can ask our waiters for any ingredients to be taken out or added in, or if you want it made extra hot or extra mild.”

Edinburgh-born Michael and his brother and fellow manager Si, who are of Indian heritage, are passionate about the authenticity of the food. Full of new and exotic choices, the menu features delicious signature dishes, vegetarian and seafood, lunch time thalis and traditional favourites.

The friendly team also serve smaller bites in the Beer Garden, while hungrier customers can order from the A La Carte menu and enjoy their meals outside.

The Early Bird menu offers diners two courses for £10.95, from 5pm to 7pm, Sunday to Thursday. And with a takeaway and home delivery service available – what more could you ask for?
